Ejector Pump Services

Installation, repair and servicing of sewage and wastewater ejector pumps serving basements and below-sewer-level fittings.

Ejector Pump Services

Overview

An ejector pump lifts wastewater from fittings located below the level of the main sewer — basement toilets, pantries, wash areas and plant rooms — up to a point where it can discharge by gravity. Because it handles solids as well as liquid, it works in demanding conditions.

SPS Jetting installs, repairs and services ejector and sewage pumps, including the wet well or holding chamber. Fats, wipes, rags and other debris are the most common cause of failure, and clearing the chamber is an essential part of restoring reliable operation.

Works include pump repair and replacement, impeller and seal renewal, float and control repairs, non-return valve replacement, wet well cleaning and odour control, with 24-hour attendance where a failure has caused a backup.

Ejector Pump Services — Frequently Asked Questions

Common questions about ejector pump services in Singapore, answered by our plumbing and drainage specialists.

What is the difference between a sump pump and an ejector pump?

A sump pump handles relatively clean water — groundwater, rainwater or wash-down water — collected in a sump pit. An ejector pump handles wastewater containing solids from toilets, sinks and other sanitary fittings located below sewer level.

The two are not interchangeable. An ejector pump is built to pass solids and is fitted to a sealed chamber with venting, whereas a sump pump installed on a sewage duty will block quickly and may create a hygiene problem.

Why does my ejector pump keep blocking?

The most frequent cause is material that should not enter the system: wet wipes, sanitary products, cloths, cooking fat and food waste. Wipes in particular bind around the impeller and are the single most common reason for call-outs.

Repeated blockages can also indicate an undersized pump, a partially obstructed discharge line, or heavy grease accumulation in the chamber. If blockages recur after cleaning, the chamber and discharge pipework should both be inspected rather than simply clearing the pump again.

How often should an ejector pump and wet well be serviced?

Servicing every six months suits most installations, with quarterly attention where the pump serves a food establishment or a high-use facility.

A service should include testing the pump and controls, checking the non-return valve, inspecting seals, and cleaning accumulated grease and solids from the chamber. Chambers that are never cleaned gradually lose working volume, which causes the pump to cycle more frequently and fail earlier.

What should I do if sewage is backing up from a basement fitting?

Stop using the fittings served by the pump immediately, as continued use will add to the backup. Avoid contact with the wastewater and keep the area clear.

Contact a contractor for urgent attendance. The cause is usually a failed pump, a blocked chamber or an obstructed discharge line, all of which need to be cleared before the system can be returned to use. We attend these situations around the clock.

Do ejector pump chambers cause odours?

A correctly installed chamber is sealed and vented, so odours should not enter the building. Persistent smells usually indicate a failed seal on the access cover, a blocked or missing vent, or heavy accumulation of decomposing solids inside the chamber.

Cleaning the chamber addresses the immediate source. Where odours persist afterwards, the cover seal and venting arrangement should be inspected, as these are frequently overlooked during routine maintenance.
