Detention & Storage Tank Services
Desilting, cleaning, repair and maintenance of stormwater detention tanks and non-potable storage tanks.
Overview
Detention tanks hold stormwater during heavy rain and release it slowly into the public drains. Silt, debris and sediment settle in the tank over time, reducing its capacity and blocking outlets, screens and pumps, so the tank no longer performs as designed.
SPS Jetting provides cleaning, repair and maintenance for detention tanks and non-potable storage tanks in one scope: pumping out, desilting by vacuum suction, high-pressure washing, clearing outlets and pump sumps, and repairing cracks, leaks, covers and fittings found during the works.
Detention and storage tanks are confined spaces, so works are planned with a permit-to-work, gas testing, ventilation and a trained attendant, and scheduled around the weather and the building's operations.
What We Do
Desilting & Cleaning
Removal of silt, sludge and debris by vacuum suction, followed by high-pressure washing of floors, walls and channels.
Outlet & Pump Sump Clearing
Clearing of outlets, orifices, screens and pump sumps so the tank drains down as designed.
Repair & Waterproofing
Crack repair, waterproofing, and repair or replacement of access covers, valves and fittings.
Scheduled Maintenance
Regular inspection and desilting programmes, with condition reports for building management.

Detention & Storage Tank Services — Frequently Asked Questions
Common questions about detention & storage tank services in Singapore, answered by our plumbing and drainage specialists.
What is a detention tank and why does it need maintenance?
A detention tank holds stormwater during heavy rain and releases it slowly into the public drainage system, reducing the peak flow leaving the site. Many developments in Singapore are required to provide on-site detention as part of their drainage design.
Silt, debris and sediment carried in with the stormwater gradually settle in the tank. Over time they reduce its storage capacity and can block outlets, orifices and pumps, so the tank no longer performs as designed.
How often should a detention tank be cleaned?
Detention tanks should be inspected regularly and desilted whenever build-up is found. For most sites, at least once a year is a sensible minimum, and more often where the catchment carries a lot of sediment, such as sites next to construction or large landscaped areas.
It is also good practice to inspect the tank after prolonged heavy rain, and to check the outlet controls and pumps at the same visit.
What does detention tank cleaning involve?
- Isolating inlets and, where needed, temporarily diverting incoming flows.
- Pumping out standing water.
- Removing silt, sludge and debris by vacuum suction.
- High-pressure washing of the floor, walls and channels.
- Clearing outlets, orifices, screens and pump sumps.
- Inspecting for cracks, leaks and damaged fittings, with a condition report.
Do you repair detention and storage tanks as well?
Yes. We repair detention tanks, storage tanks, sump pits and other stormwater structures, including crack repair, waterproofing, and the repair or replacement of access covers, valves and fittings.
Because these structures usually contain silt and debris, repairs are often combined with desilting and high-pressure cleaning so that surfaces can be properly inspected and prepared.
Is detention tank work treated as confined space work?
Yes. Detention tanks and most underground storage tanks are confined spaces, so entry must follow Singapore's confined space safety requirements: a permit-to-work, gas testing before and during entry, ventilation, and a trained attendant stationed outside.
These controls are planned into the job from the start, so the works should be carried out by a team experienced in confined space entry.
