Hacking & Reinstatement
Controlled hacking and surface reinstatement for pipeline access, plumbing repairs, and infrastructure maintenance projects.
Overview
Many plumbing, drainage, and pipeline works require access to pipes concealed within walls, floors, or underground. Hacking — the controlled breaking of concrete, tiles, or other surfaces — is often necessary to reach these buried systems for repair or replacement.
SPS Jetting provides both the hacking work to gain access and the reinstatement work to restore surfaces after repairs are completed. This includes concrete breaking, tile removal, excavation, backfilling, re-screeding, tiling, and surface finishing.
Our team coordinates hacking and reinstatement as part of integrated pipeline and plumbing projects, ensuring minimal disruption and a clean, professional finish.
What We Do
Controlled Hacking
Precision hacking of concrete floors, walls, and surfaces to access concealed pipelines with minimal damage to surrounding areas.
Surface Reinstatement
Full restoration of hacked areas including backfilling, re-screeding, waterproofing, tiling, and surface finishing to match existing finishes.
Excavation & Backfilling
Earth excavation for buried pipeline access, with proper backfilling and compaction after pipe works are completed.
Integrated Project Coordination
Hacking and reinstatement managed as part of the overall plumbing or pipeline project, with a single team handling the full scope.

Hacking & Reinstatement — Frequently Asked Questions
Common questions about hacking & reinstatement in Singapore, answered by our plumbing and drainage specialists.
What does hacking and reinstatement involve?
Hacking is the controlled removal of concrete, screed, tiles or other finishes to gain access to pipework, drainage or structures concealed within a wall, floor or ceiling. Reinstatement is the making good of those surfaces once the works are complete.
The two are treated as a single scope for good reason: the quality of the finished area depends as much on how the opening was formed as on the reinstatement itself.
When is hacking required?
- Replacement of concealed water supply or drainage pipework.
- Repair of leaks within walls, floors or ceiling slabs.
- Installation of new drainage connections or floor traps.
- Access to buried inspection chambers or pipe junctions.
- Waterproofing works requiring removal of existing finishes.
Where pipework can be traced accurately beforehand, the extent of hacking — and therefore the reinstatement cost — is usually much smaller than owners expect.
Will the reinstated area match the existing finish?
We match finishes as closely as the available materials allow. Where tiling is involved, an exact match depends on whether the original tiles are still manufactured or whether spare tiles are held on site.
For this reason we recommend confirming tile availability before works begin. Where an exact match is not possible, options include using a deliberate contrasting band, retiling a defined area, or sourcing the closest available equivalent.
Is hacking noisy and dusty, and can it be done in occupied buildings?
Hacking is unavoidably noisy and generates dust, but both can be managed. We use dust sheeting and containment, control the working hours to suit building rules, and clean the area at the end of each working day.
Most works in occupied residential and commercial buildings are scheduled within permitted hours agreed with the management office, with advance notice given to neighbouring units.
Do you carry out waterproofing after hacking in wet areas?
Yes. Where hacking has been carried out in a bathroom, kitchen, balcony or other wet area, the waterproofing membrane will have been broken and must be reinstated before finishes are laid.
Skipping this step is a common cause of leaks appearing weeks or months after otherwise successful plumbing repairs. Reinstatement should always include making good the waterproofing layer, not only the visible surface.
