Vacuum Suction & Waste Disposal — Frequently Asked Questions

Common questions about vacuum suction & waste disposal in Singapore, answered by our plumbing and drainage specialists.

What is a vacuum tanker used for?

A vacuum tanker extracts liquid and semi-liquid waste — sludge, silt, grease, wastewater and slurry — from tanks, chambers, sumps and pits, and transports it for licensed disposal.

It is used wherever waste cannot practically be removed by hand or flushed into the drainage system: grease trap waste, sump pit sludge, detention tank silt, septic tank contents and the residue from drain jetting works.

Is the waste disposed of legally?

It must be. Waste collected must be transported and disposed of through licensed channels in accordance with NEA requirements, and not discharged into the public drainage system.

When engaging any contractor for waste extraction, it is worth confirming how and where the collected waste will be disposed of. Responsibility for improper disposal does not end at the point the tanker leaves the site.

How quickly can a vacuum tanker attend?

For scheduled works, attendance is arranged at a time that suits site access and operations. For emergencies — an overflowing chamber, flooded sump or blocked grease trap disrupting a kitchen — we respond 24 hours a day.

Access is usually the main constraint rather than availability: the tanker needs to park within hose reach of the extraction point, so basement and rear-of-house locations should be checked in advance.

Can vacuum extraction be combined with jetting?

Yes, and in many cases it should be. Jetting dislodges grease, silt and debris, which then need to be removed rather than allowed to settle further along the drainage system.

Combining the two — jetting the line while the tanker extracts the loosened material from the downstream chamber — produces a considerably better result than either service on its own.

What sizes of tanker do you operate?

We deploy tankers suited to the site, from smaller units able to access tight carparks and service yards to larger capacity tankers for bulk extraction.

Where access is genuinely restricted, extended hose runs or transfer arrangements can be used. It is helpful to advise on access constraints when arranging the job so that the correct vehicle is dispatched first time.
