Pump Repair & Maintenance
Diagnosis, repair, replacement and scheduled maintenance of transfer, booster, sump, ejector and diverter pumps for commercial, industrial and residential properties.
Overview
Pumps are among the few components of a building's water and drainage system that run continuously and wear out predictably. When a pump fails, the consequences are immediate — flooded basements, backed-up sanitary lines or a loss of water pressure to upper floors.
SPS Jetting installs, services and repairs the pump types found in Singapore buildings: transfer pumps that keep roof tanks filled, booster pumps that maintain supply pressure, sump pumps that remove collected water, ejector pumps that lift wastewater to the sewer, and diverter pumps that redirect flows between lines, sumps and tanks.
Each pump type has its own page and FAQs below.
Our work covers fault diagnosis, repair or replacement, control panel and float switch checks, pipework and non-return valve replacement, and scheduled servicing to reduce the risk of unplanned failure.

Pump Repair & Maintenance — Frequently Asked Questions
Common questions about pump repair & maintenance in Singapore, answered by our plumbing and drainage specialists.
What are the signs that a pump is failing?
- The pump runs constantly or cycles on and off rapidly.
- Unusual noise, vibration or overheating.
- Water accumulating in the sump despite the pump running.
- Tripping of the circuit breaker or repeated alarm activations.
- Loss of water pressure at upper floors, in the case of booster pumps.
- Foul odours or slow discharge from sanitary fittings served by an ejector pump.
Rapid cycling and continuous running are the most common early warnings. Both shorten pump life considerably, so investigating them early usually costs less than replacing a burnt-out unit.
How long does a water pump last?
Service life depends on duty, water quality and maintenance. A pump that runs intermittently in clean conditions may last eight to twelve years, while a pump handling silt, grease or continuous duty may need replacement within three to five years.
Where duty and standby pumps are installed, alternating them evenly distributes wear and extends the life of both units. Many failures we attend are caused by one pump carrying the full load because the changeover control has failed.
Should a failed pump be repaired or replaced?
Repair is usually worthwhile where the fault lies in the controls, float switch, non-return valve or wiring rather than the pump itself. These components are inexpensive relative to a new pump.
Replacement is generally more economical where the motor has burnt out, where the impeller and casing are heavily worn, or where the pump is already near the end of its expected life. We advise on the comparison rather than automatically quoting for a new unit.
Do you provide emergency pump repairs?
Yes. Pump failures that cause flooding, sewage backup or loss of water supply are treated as emergencies and we respond 24 hours a day.
Where an immediate permanent repair is not possible — for example if a specific replacement unit must be sourced — we can often provide a temporary arrangement to keep the property operational until the permanent works are completed.
Do you service pumps under a maintenance contract?
Yes. Scheduled servicing is available for MCSTs, facility managers and industrial sites. A typical visit includes testing the duty and standby pumps, checking float switches and control panels, verifying alarms, inspecting non-return valves and cleaning the sump or wet well.
Regular servicing is particularly valuable for pumps that are rarely observed, such as those in basement sumps, where a failure is often only discovered once water has already accumulated.
