Inspection Chamber Waterproofing
Waterproofing, sealing, and rehabilitation of inspection chambers to prevent leaks, infiltration, and structural deterioration.
Overview
Inspection chambers (ICs) are critical access points in drainage and sewer systems. Over time, these chambers can develop cracks, joint failures, and deterioration that allow groundwater infiltration or sewage leakage — leading to system overload, ground contamination, and structural problems.
SPS Jetting provides professional IC waterproofing services to seal and protect these chambers. Our work includes surface preparation, crack repair, joint sealing, and application of waterproofing membranes or coatings to restore watertight integrity.
Proper IC waterproofing reduces infiltration loads on the sewer system, prevents environmental contamination, and extends the service life of the chamber structure.
What We Do
Chamber Waterproofing
Application of waterproofing membranes, coatings, and sealants to inspection chamber walls, floors, and covers.
Crack & Joint Repair
Structural repair of cracks, failed joints, and deteriorated mortar in chamber walls and benching.
Infiltration Prevention
Sealing works to stop groundwater infiltration that overloads sewer systems and causes operational issues.
Chamber Rehabilitation
Full rehabilitation of deteriorated chambers including structural repair, resurfacing, and waterproofing.

Inspection Chamber Waterproofing — Frequently Asked Questions
Common questions about inspection chamber waterproofing in Singapore, answered by our plumbing and drainage specialists.
What is IC waterproofing?
IC waterproofing refers to the sealing and waterproofing of inspection chambers — the access chambers built into a drainage system that allow it to be inspected, cleaned and maintained.
Over time, the walls, base and joints of a chamber deteriorate. Groundwater seeps in, wastewater seeps out, and the surrounding soil can be washed away. Waterproofing restores the integrity of the chamber using cementitious or polymer-based systems applied to the internal surfaces.
How do I know if an inspection chamber needs waterproofing?
- Visible cracks in the chamber walls, base or benching.
- Water seeping into the chamber when it should be dry.
- Damp or subsidence in the ground around the chamber.
- Erosion of the benching or exposed brickwork and aggregate.
- Persistent odours escaping from around the chamber.
- Rising groundwater infiltration increasing flows to the sewer.
Infiltration is often first noticed as an unexplained increase in flow during wet weather, particularly where a chamber sits below the water table.
Why does inspection chamber leakage matter?
Leakage works in both directions and both are problems. Wastewater escaping from a defective chamber contaminates the surrounding ground; groundwater entering the chamber adds to the volume the drainage system must carry, which can overload pumps and downstream pipework.
Continued infiltration also washes fines out of the surrounding soil, which over time can undermine paving, road surfaces and nearby structures.
How long does IC waterproofing take?
A single chamber can usually be prepared and waterproofed within a day, though the system applied will require curing time before the chamber returns to normal service.
The chamber must be cleaned and, where necessary, temporarily isolated or over-pumped so that surfaces are dry enough for the waterproofing to bond correctly. We confirm the sequence on site once the condition of the chamber has been assessed.
Is waterproofing better than rebuilding the chamber?
Waterproofing is suitable where the chamber remains structurally sound and the defects are limited to cracking, porous surfaces and failed joints. It is considerably less disruptive and less costly than reconstruction.
Where the chamber has partially collapsed, where the cover slab or benching has failed structurally, or where the chamber is badly out of alignment, rebuilding is the more durable solution. A CCTV inspection and visual assessment will establish which applies.
